Gene's Beaver Floral is staffed by extremely skilled floral artisans. Together they have decades of experience in all aspects of floristry, from arranging unique creations to managing large scale events such as weddings and conferences. The owner has hand picked each of his staff based on their outstanding abilities in the field of floristry. Gene Rubey - Owner Hello, I am Gene Rubey and the owner of Gene’s Beaver Floral. As a former “farm boy” from Iowa it was my dream to own a flower shop. In 1972, my dream came true and it was the beginning of Genes Beaver Floral. A former business partner and I came to this area and opened this store at it’s present location after purchasing the business interests from the previous owner. My business partner retired in the late 80” and I have been the sole owner since. My position entails many duties , including ordering product . researching wedding locations and creating the “dream” of that bride for her day, listening to families as they choose flowers to commemorate the death of a loved one, scheduling employees at both stores since I also own the floral department at out local Piggly Wiggly and am the first guy here each day and the last to leave. In floral work, I am well versed in sympathy work as well as wedding florals for both ceremony and reception. When necessary, I assist with corsage work, often do some permanent florals in what may be termed ”silk flowers” as at times I am called on to help with interior decorating of homes, and have some knowledge of plants and plant maintenance. I am happy we are beginning our 4th decade of business and I look forward to many more years here. At weddings, I am often asked, ”Will you be available for my granddaughters wedding?”. My response is “ I can’t promise that, but I look forward to many years of providing wedding flowers!” We are now in an era where many of our brides are second generation , as they are the daughters of brides and grooms from the 70”s and the early 80”s. I put in a lot of hours managing both stores and know the feeling of 14 and 16 hour work days. However, coming here to the store has never been work for me and I look forward to each day. When not at the store, I enjoy a recently remodeled art deco home on the lake and the privacy of my yard that entails some gardening. Beyond that, I enjoy seeking unusual art deco era antiques and am particularly fond of glass vases and unusual glass objects of art.
